Why I use Collagen

I have tried two different types of collagen this past year. Collagen promotes healthy hair, nails, skin and joints. I’ve tried pill form and powder form. Here is the reasons I use collagen daily and what kind I enjoy for myself.

As I age there seems to be a few fun little creaks and stiffness in my joints and hands. We all use our hands in our daily work, especially sewing! I need my hands to function well. I sew all the hip huggers I produce. My preference to eating is mainly whole foods and vegan. But with the fingers and joints hurting I was desperate to try a few remedies that didn’t include a prescription or over the counter drug. My first try was bone broth but I found you had to drink a lot each day! Of course if you don’t make it with a carcass which I am not willing to cook anymore in my kitchen I had to buy bone broth and it’s pricey!

There is collagen in pill form from Costco and budget friendly. But you have to take 6 supplements a day! Leaky gut syndrome doesn’t allow my body to digest supplements as well as I would like. So that didn’t work either.

The best Collagen so far that I have tried is powder form Vital Proteins brand with a cow on its label. I tried that for a month. Great results and my fingers and hands, knees felt better. The powder dissolves easily and there is really no taste. I like to add the powder to my morning coffee. You can find this on Amazon, Whole Foods and at Costco.

This month I am trying a vegan collagen powder from Primal Kitchen. My ideal form of collagen would be vegan, but this powder doesn’t dissolve well in liquid and there are big chunks of powder you swallow in your coffee. Im disappointed. I will see if there are other vegan brands. Fish collagen in my coffee doesn’t sound appealing at all. I found this at Whole Foods.

When collagen dissolves and works with your body it’s a great way to get rid of joint pain and my fingers feel much better. Do you have a favorite?
