Welcome to Alki Active. We are a lifestyle brand for women needing a little extra support while living an active lifestyle. Kathy Nelson, founder, wholeheartedly believes that movement is medicine, especially as we age. With two torn hip labrals causing significant pain, movement became more and more difficult. Kathy searched for a non-invasive way to reduce her hip pain but found nothing. So after a lot of research, and with a little help from her husband of 40 years, she designed and started creating a compression sleeve for her hips. A true Hip Hugger.

After a number of iterations, multiple fabrics, and a lot of sewing, Kathy found a design that provided the right amount of compression to her hip muscles and joints. It was the big warm hug her hips needed to reduce her pain and allow the level of movement and activity she previously had.

Something else that Kathy’s research revealed was that she was not alone. Hip pain affects women everywhere, of every age. Their pain is not always severe, but it prevents them from living the healthy active lifestyle we all need. It was clear to Kathy that she wanted to help these women too. She hopes to do this with Alki Active, not only with compression enabled activewear, but by building a community of support and motivation.

Kathy and her husband live in Washington State in a small town near Seattle. They enjoy walking, hiking, gardening and boating in the Puget Sound. They have four very active grandchildren, and with their AirBnB they have the pleasure of hosting and meeting guests from all over the world. None of this would be possible without health, and movement is their key to health.
