I will be turning 56 soon, and what better way to spend my 56th year but by dancing! I love to challenge myself each year with something outside my comfort zone. Last year it was learning how to sew!
Our daughter is teaching again at the local dance studio where she spent so many years dancing. She is back after having two boys! She will try her hand at teaching adults this year and will need to be very patient with us. I use to dance for fun years ago, but after my hip injury I stopped it. Basically because you should never turn or twist your hips with torn labrals. I have been keeping my hips healthy with lots of walking and I will try dancing again. Hip pain can keep us all from doing fun active things. Choose wisely in what your body can take.
Watching ymyself in front of a mirror with others in the studio can be quite scary, or embarrassing. Wearing a dance costume again and dancing on stage will take a lot of guts and hopefully I can do this.
Benefits of dancing after the age of 50:
- Improves strength and muscle function
- Improves balance and endurance
- Happy attitude
- Eating healthy to keep stamina up
- Social fun with others
- Improves mental health
My hip hugger will help keep my hips secure while I at least try dancing again. It’s nice to have a big hug as you try something new.
