Movement is medicine

Do you have hip pain that is preventing you from moving daily? I have a hip labral tear in both my hips. I created the Hip Hugger so I can move each day with LESS pain. It’s just a rubber band around my hips to keep them in place as I move. I just slip it over my leggings and I am off to walk, dance, clean or garden. The compression in the fabric is not binding and the fabric is soft so you can move.

Movement daily is a ritual and one I look forward to each morning. I like to start my day with a 3-4 mile brisk walk around my local community. Normally I see just a few people out and we space ourselves accordingly. How can you stay active while quarantined? Here are a few easy ways to start your movement habit with hip pain. Heck a habit forms in 21 day and yes you have time to form healthy habits now.

Here are a few fun suggestions to move daily with hip pain:

  1. Stretch out your hips carefully each day using a guide book or video from a reputable doctor. I use my old physical therapy days instructions.
  2. Walk with good shoes around your neighborhood if safe, or find a trail that allows you to walk without getting close to others.
  3. Find a fun low impact workout video.
  4. Walk in place to a video on your TV. There are quite a few that have fun music and great locations to enjoy.
  5. Dance around your home with fun music or dance with family members with a dance party theme each day.
